Jesus prays that his disciples will be protected and kept as they remain in a hostile world. Their perseverance doesn’t finally depend on their own strength, but on God’s preserving grace. Peter’s later failure shows that Christian can stumble badly without being abandoned by Christ. Our confidence is that the Saviour who died, rose and intercedes for his people is faithful to keep his own.
